AUGUST DIEHL FIGHTS AS FRANZ HUNTERS AGAINST THE WAR
In Malick's new film "A Hidden Life", the Austrian Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl) is fighting against the war right from the start: He does not want to go into battle as a soldier, does not want to confess to Hitler and in no case will kill people. At first, it does not look like it's necessary. Because Jägerstätter lives with his wife and children on a secluded alp in the Austrian mountains - the horrors of the Second World War are felt far away. But the war needs people material and so Jägerstätter is drafted. But instead of going to war, he moves into a fight for humanity and prefers to go to jail rather than give up his values.
In "A Hidden Life," Malick tells a story based on true events. In 1964, the US sociologist Gordon Zahn published the biography "He followed his conscience. The lonely testimony of Franz Jägerstätter ", in which the way of the war objector was recorded.
