With "One Direction" star Harry Styles, the perfect Prince Erik for the upcoming Disney real-movie adaptation of "Arielle" already seemed to have been found. But now the search for the prince charming begins again - Styles is out.
He is considered a sex symbol, has millions of fans worldwide, served as a template for the teen romance "After Passion," and made his acclaimed acting debut in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk," "One Direction" singer Harry Styles. However, he will not be one, Ariel's crush Prince Erik. As Variety now reports, Styles is no longer eligible for the role on the side of singer-colleague Halle Bailey ("Grown-ish") in the upcoming Disney real-life adaptation of "Arielle, the Mermaid" into consideration. The 25-year-old has made the decision himself, the studio is already looking for a successor.
Fans of the swarm of girls must now be strong because they will not see him in the role of the prince charming in the reissue of the cartoon classic. Others should be happy to hear the news: Because it was already known that Harry Styles should take over the role, this choice was also heavily criticized by many users in the network. As alternatives at that time musician colleague Shawn Mendes, from the "Lost" known Ian Somerhalder, Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan ("Avengers 4") or Jake Gyllenhaal ("Spider-Man: Far From Home") proposed.
CASTING RACES FOR "ARIELLE, THE MERMAID"
It's the second time in a short while that Styles has been talking for a high-profile role, but in the end, we're not going to see him. Most recently, he was to play Elvis Presley in the upcoming Elvis biopic by Baz Luhrmann. Eventually, however, Austin Butler was cast as the "King of Rock and Roll." Who will step in for him as Erik in "Disney's Arielle, the mermaid" remains to be seen?
Still in the real-movie remake of director Rob Marshall ("Brautalarm") are Halle Bailey as Arielle, Melissa McCarthy ("Mike & Molly") as nasty sea witch Ursula, Jacob Tremblay ("Good Boys") as Fish Fabius and Awkwafina ("Crazy Rich Asians") as a weedy Seagull Scuttle. Most recently, Javier Bardem was talking to King Triton.
When the film comes into the movie theaters is not yet known. We do not expect a theatrical release before 2021.
