Dwayne Johnson is one of those action heroes who seem superhuman by nature. In the upcoming DC blockbuster "Black Adam" he will embody a real superhero for the first time in his career.
Dwayne Johnson fought for it for a long time, but now it's finally decided: The superstar will appear as the eponymous DC superhero or anti-hero in "Black Adam". It's been 15 (!) years since reports first surfaced that The Rock would be cast as Black Adam. Here's the new trailer:
Now the new trailer for "Black Adam" has been released, in which Dwayne Johnson shows what he does best: flexing his muscles properly. The blockbuster will start in USA cinemas on October 21, 2022. It was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, with whom Johnson previously worked on Jungle Cruise.
WHO IS "BLACK ADAM"?
Black Adam is a villain from DC Comics. He is the classic nemesis and sinister counterpart to Shazam, whom superhero fans already know from the DC film of the same name by David F. Sandberg. Sometimes Black Adam is also portrayed as an anti-hero - and this interpretation seems to be followed in the upcoming "Black Adam" hit.
While Black Adam is more likely to be found in the middle of good and evil in the film, "Aladdin" star Marwan Kenzari probably takes on the role of the villain. However, there are also some real heroes to be discovered here: namely the Justice Society Of America (JSA), which in the comics is a predecessor of the Justice League Of America (JLA), so to speak. This consists of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).
SURPRISE SUICIDE SQUAD COMEBACK IN BLACK ADAM
It was also revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Viola Davis will be starring as Amanda Waller from Suicide Squad and The Suicide Squad. Black Adam is thus clearly linked to the previous DC universe. But what role will she play? Is she trying to recruit the anti-hero for her team?
"BLACK ADAM" TAKES PLACE IN TWO TIMELINES
"Black Adam" will definitely be set in two timelines, which serves to flesh out the character's character and his ambivalences even more clearly. The origin story of the titular hero is set 5,000 years ago in a fictional land called Kahndaq, where Teth-Adam (Black Adam's real name) is living as a slave under cruel conditions.
However, he is then granted powerful superpowers and unleashes a revolution to bring his oppressors and exploiters to their knees. However, because he repeatedly misuses his powers for his own purposes, he is imprisoned for 5,000 years before he wakes up again in the present - and there he has to deal with the JSA, among others.
