The first voices for "Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker" is here: Not everyone is enthusiastic
“Star Wars - Episode 9” is about to be released. And now that the world premiere of the film has taken place in Los Angeles, we also get the first reactions at the end of the Skywalker saga ...
Even though Disney's Star Wars sustained fire of the past few years may have caused some "Star Wars" fatigue, "Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker" is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year. Finally, “Episode 9” not only completes the new trilogy but the entire main saga, which comprises nine films.
Some selected fans, bloggers and journalists have already enjoyed “Star Wars 9” at yesterday's world premiere. And while there is still a blocking period for detailed reviews, many have already shared their impressions in short form via Twitter.
Many tweets speak of the euphoria that can also be expected from a premiere audience. Nevertheless, there are also some more critical voices mixed in. Overall, there seems to be agreement that "The Rise of Skywalker" is damned packed when it comes to ending the Skywalker saga - too full for some ...
WORTHY CLOSING
With the previous votes, the positive opinions predominate, which describe “Star Wars 9” as a worthy conclusion of the saga thanks to the many answers, all kinds of surprises and a lot of nostalgia. Some are even thrilled, like Umberto Gonzalez from online magazine The Wrap:

"One word: EPIC! A satisfying adventure that will please the audience and a fitting ending for the saga! My favorite of the three! Can't wait to see him again! "
Screen rant writer Mansoor Mithaiwala shares this view and promises that "Star Wars 9" has a few unexpected twists and turns:
"'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' is a REALLY satisfying conclusion to the saga. It answers practically everything you wanted to know and more ... with a few twists and phrases. If you thought you knew what was happening, you thought wrong. "
Podcasters and film journalist Jake Hamilton even thinks that "Star Wars 9" is unique as a "Star Wars" film:
"' The Rise of Skywalker' is all I hoped it would be - since there has never been a 'Star Wars' film like this. It is dark and scary, but also hopeful and beautiful. He ends the trilogy while also ending the saga as a whole. I know I'm rambling, but I adore this film. "
Jenna Busch declared "Star Wars" fan and writer on several film websites like Vital Thrills, is also completely blown away:
"OH MY GOD! I was completely blown away! I've never been happier with a movie. It is the end of an era and a franchise that has shaped my life. And it did it justice in a way that I would not have thought possible. You WILL cry ... "
And Fandango editor Erik Davis also shows how emotional the "Star Wars 9" experience was for him:
"Epic. All of it. 'The Rise of Skywalker' is a fantastic finale and crammed with everything. Action, adventure - answers !! - humor, heart, love, and courage. I had tears in my eyes the whole second half - a wonderful way to end the Skywalker story. ”
TOO MUCH FOR A FILM
It sounds like the consistently positive voices, but while they are still absolutely overwhelmed by the film, others see the abundance of characters and plot in "Star Wars 9" with more mixed feelings, such as Germain Lussier from Gizmodo and io9 or Mike Ryan from Uproxx:
"'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' has everything you want and more. Which is not necessarily a good thing. I loved some parts but not others and I left the cinema very, very torn. "
"'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' is definitely the most confused 'Star Wars'. There is a lot I liked, but the first half silted up so much in exposure and new plot and thingies and signals and transmitters, it feels like it should have been three films of my own. ”
Collider author Haleigh Foutch comes to a more positive conclusion overall but also sees some problems especially in the first half of the film. With a length of 142 minutes, however, there is still enough running time for strong moments:
"' The rise of Skywalker' is pretty bumpy at the beginning, but in the end, I had a really good time in the cinema. It's a lot of films that ticks all the boxes. Maybe too many. "
NO LOVE FOR "STAR WARS 8"
It can also be read several times that returnees from director J.J. Abrams rather tries to build on his own trilogy prelude "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" than Rian Johnson's controversial direct predecessor "Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi":
Terri Schwartz, head of the entertainment segment at IGN, explains somewhat disillusioned: "It's ... a lot. There is a lot I like and some I love, but overall my feelings are very mixed. It felt like an apology for 'The Last Jedi' and above all like a sequel to 'The Force Awakens', which I found frustrating. "
Kyle Buchanan, a journalist for the New York Times, is even of the opinion that "Episode 9" trampled on the eighth part of the saga:
"' The rise of Skywalker' could only have been rougher to Rian Johnson if it had been provided with motion smoothing." Buchanan is alluding to the function of the same name on many televisions, which is supposed to ensure a smoother picture, but at the same time for many Eyes appear very unusual and unattractive. Rian Johnson is also a declared opponent of this technique.
The colleagues from CinemaBlend assess the handling of "Star Wars 8" similarly:
"'The rise of Skywalker' is a drastic departure from 'The Last Jedi', but at the same time not as lively as 'The Force Awakens'. It is a film that is packed with action (there is really no break) but also clogged with fan service. ”
In its own Twitter post, CinemaBlend writer Eric Eisenberg even goes a little further and comes to one of the most negative judgments so far:
"There is good in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'. But there is more that is disappointing. Some decisions are just not understandable, fan service that doesn't work, and ignored details that are overlooked. I am depressed."
Between all the previous requests to speak, there are always tweets from people who cannot yet reach a final judgment because they have to process what they have seen in the first place. On the other hand, what we think of the conclusion of the Skywalker saga can be found in the 3Movierulz review (around 9 a.m.) just in time for the theatrical release on December 20, 2019, and a day later in the first episode of the new 3Movierulz podcast "screen love",
