The actress has commented that the Russo brothers talked with her about this final about two years ago.

The Avengers final: Endgame for Captain America was quite beautiful and emotional, today, Hayley Atwell, the actress who gave life to Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in the Agent Carter series, has talked about that ending.

If you have not seen Avengers: Endgame, we recommend that you do not continue reading, since you will find spoilers of the film.

At the end of Endgame, Captain America left in the past with Peggy Carter, his great love, to spend a quiet life together. Atwell has commented that he believes both characters received an appropriate and beautiful ending:

I thought it was an appropriate ending to a story that has affected so many people. I thought he was very endearing, innocent and healthy in the way he keeps those characters in his time. I thought it was quite beautiful and very tasteful. Marvel at the end of this 10-year story in a very simple story about two human beings and one of them doesn't even have superpowers. So, I thought the tone would end there, after some extraordinary things of trauma, action, effects, and powers ... having two people dancing slowly was very beautiful.

The actress has pointed out that all this was thought long ago. Marvel Studios and the Russo brothers, directors of Avengers: Endgame, commented on this final a couple of years ago:

I think we filmed this maybe two years ago. Then, maybe a few weeks before, I received a call saying "We are thinking about this ... What do you think about it? I could send the entire franchise." Then, it was an afternoon of filming about two years ago.

It is quite likely that we will not see Agent Carter again on the big screen, but she feels completely satisfied with her journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

Oh yeah! I feel really satisfied. It was a great moment and I think they finished it wonderfully with Endgame. It feels like an appropriate ending to that narrative. I am a theater actress with classical training, so I want to stab the challenging parts of the canon for theatrical actresses. That is something I've always aspired to. So, I am fortunate to have interpreted her, but she is an aspect of my career. With every job I have done, I have taken the job because I have seen something inside my character that I would love to explore or test and it challenged me. With the main part, it requires a lot of my focus and passion, but it's the same focus and passion, whether it's Peggy Carter or Rebecca West on Rosmersholm on stage, which I just finished. It is the same curiosity to see what the world of each character is.
