Jennifer Lopez pulls out of her pocket in a row in "Hustler's Wall Street" money bags - and the US cinema crowd seems to succumb to the 50-year-old New Yorker. Soon, the critics and audience hit also comes to us.
With an estimated budget of approximately $ 21 million, "Hustlers" was able to flush $ 37 million into the box office in its first week. One of the biggest surprise hits of 2019 is the film, which critics claim not only high entertainment value but also the best performance in Jennifer Lopez's career, and even credits the actress and singer for Oscar. This is also underlined by the film's recent review on the critic's platform Rotten Tomatoes, where the film is after more than 200 reviews at a strong 87 percent (as of 17 September 2019). And as Universum Film announced, German audiences will also see it this year: The distributor brings the stripper gangster drama to the cinemas in Germany on 5 December 2019.
THAT'S WHY IN "HUSTLERS"
In "Hustlers," a troupe of (ex) strippers, led by ambitious Ramona Vega (Jennifer Lopez), decides to exempt their customers from the stock market, rather than wait to be showered with green notes while dancing. The trigger is the financial crisis of 2008, which has hit the hard-working on Strip Street clientele working on Wall Street. Those who still visit the clubs are usually spiteful, unpleasant men who demand sexual satisfaction from the ladies for their money.
Even main character Dorothy aka Destiny (Constance Wu) is fed up with Ramona's plan for this reason: Instead of waiting for paying customers to join the club, the local women are looking for rich men to make them drunk, to lure them into the club and to take them out to the last shirt. The shame of having to admit being robbed by strippers keeps the men from going to the police, and soon a small, secret trickery among fellow women becomes a criminal empire. But when the times change again, Ramona goes a few steps too far...
